The build of The Monument of Balinese Struggle Monument was the idea of the late Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra. At that moment he was the Governor of Bali. In order to achieve his idea, so in the year of 1981 until 1987 an architectural competition was made. Ida Bagus Gede Yadnya won the competition and his blue print became this monument’s plan. The building of this monument was held from 1988 until 2001 with Ida Bagus Tugur as its consultant.

The monument filled with sculpture as its outer decoration which was symbolicaly capturing the life cycle which is called Catur Yuga. The octagon shape and eight leaves lotus was called Asta Data or the God’s Almighty. The pond around this building was called Ksirarnawa (The Ocean of Milk) where the Amerta (holy water) placed.

This 4.900 meters square building has 17 steps on its frontdoor stairs. It has also 8 pillars in the middle pool which is called “Agung” pillars. The height of this building from the ground until the top is 45 meters. All this numbers symbolize the independence date of Indonesia that is August 17th, 1945.

On the first floor called Nistaning Utama Mandala of this monument there are :

· Exhibition Room. In Exhibition Room you can see many unique paintings placed. Mostly the painting about the life about Balinese people, about their activities, their culture, and many more.
· Library. The library is quite small in my opinion. But you can find many kind of books such as language, geography, history, social, religion, art, and sport.,
· Souvenir Room. You can buy some souvenirs such as clothes, hat, statue, and many kind of Balinese souvenirs.
· Meeting Room to facilitate public services.

On the second floor called Madianing Utama Mandala there are 33 dioramas about struggle of Balinese People from Prehistoric Era until Independence Day. On the top floor called Utamaning Utama Mandala there are sightseeing room which is to reach it the visitors should climb 69 stairs.

This process symbolized Holy Climbing to the top of Mount Mandhara Giri. Peace and balance can be obtained in this room.
